Madrid makes the shortlist for 2016

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has announced that Madrid, Chicago, Tokyo and Rio de Janeiro have made the shortlist of candidate cities bidding for the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Madrid was rated as one of the highest for its project and legacy plan - based on a report by IOC experts who assessed each city on a number of questions covering areas such as venues, accommodation, security and transport.

Madrid also scored highly in the areas of existing and planned sports venues, government support and public opinion, transport, general infrastructure and experience from past sporting events.

As bid consultants to Madrid 2016, pmpLEGACY’s role is to work as an integral part of the Madrid 2016 team, advising on all aspects of the bidding process and, in particular, on the overarching legacy strategy that will underpin Madrid’s overall approach to the 2016 Games.

Madrid 2016 has until February 2009 to submit their candidature files to the IOC. The decision on the host city will be made in October 2009 during the 121st IOC Session in Copenhagen.
